Weekly Wrap Up - Week 5

It seems I can only manage to post a Weekly Wrap Up every other week.  But, hey...at least I'm consistent.

I don't always capture the nitty gritty on the camera, so you'll just get a glimpse of the highlights.  Above, the kiddos were playing with a new review product.  A game from playPlay.  More to come on that later!

Hubby let me take a much needed, mom's night out to Uptown Art.  A great friend and I took a painting class.  I can't wait to go again!

Our dog, Gideon, is now in dog training.  In case you weren't aware, "dog training" would be more aptly named "dog owner training".  We have a trainer coming to the house to teach the kids and us about every other week.  This huge dog was born just this past Christmas and we are looking forward to curing some bad puppy habits.

E5 is our puzzle man and spent an afternoon working on this puzzle.  It was actually rather difficult as it was one of those pictures that changes as you move it side to side.

More puzzle mania continued throughout the week.

This little one...the little one on the right...decided to do some furniture acrobatics this week.  Yes, they are sitting on a hospital bed.  He received four staples on a gash on the side of the head.  This picture was taken after the staples, while slurping the blue slushies our children's hospital gives to all patients.  He also got to watch Disney's Cars 2 at the hospital.  Despite the staples, he still declared when we got back home, "This has been SUCH a fun day!" *sigh*

This little one discovered the flash on the camera...

...and then he got a hair cut.  It's a little shorter than this Mama wanted.  But it will grow back.  It will grow back, right?

She fell asleep mid-lesson.  I certainly can't blame her.  Homeschool can be exhausting!

Weekly Wrap Up - Week 3

Week 3 is officially coming to a close and it feels as though we've hardly started at all.  We are tumbling through these first few weeks of the school year at lightening speed.  In all honesty, I am feeling a little overwhelmed.  Is there any other job in the world where one jumps back and forth more between "Am I doing enough?" and "Am I doing too much?"  I think not.  The homeschool moms win the prize for that one.

Our week started with a birthday celebration.  Four birthday celebrations actually.  This month we were celebrating my grandma, stepfather, sister, and niece's birthdays.  J1 and my niece, S1, were born 3 months a part and even though we had already celebrated J1's birthday in May, we just couldn't pass up the opportunity to give them each their own personal cake and let them go at it.  They looked like twins...absolutely adorable twins of course.  Notice L4 being a little Mama to that little bittie...yeah she's my newest niece.  We do cute well in my family. :)

We've continued to do our "co-op" with our friends.  It's been amazing having the opportunity to do school with these two families twice a week.  We start each of our co-op days gathered around in the living room.  Our kids share prayer requests, we pray, and then say the pledge.  What a sweet time!

My big boys have rediscovered a fun toy that had been buried (unopened) deep in their closet.  Snap Circuits can be put together several different ways to perform different operations.  They spent hours meticulously following the directions to make the Snap Circuits make sounds, lights, and more.  We will definitely be buying more of these kits in the future!

I'm so proud of my E5 (grade K) and L4 (grade preK).  They have been working diligently each day on their new lessons.  It's always fun to teach these ages.  They are just so excited and ready to learn.

Next week I'll be participating in the Back to Homeschool Blog Hop.  Looking forward to a fun week of inspiration from several homeschool blogging mamas!  Hope you'll join me!

Weekly Wrap Up - Week 1

Week 1

Wow!  Week 1 of the 2012-13 Integritas Academy School year has been a whirlwind of activity!  If this week is any indication of how the rest of the year is going to be then we are in for one wild ride.

As usual, we have once again started our school year in July because the blazing hot temperatures have run all my little ones indoors. Our early start gives us something to do and will allow for lots of breaks throughout the year when the temperature outside is milder and more pleasant.  As seen above, H6 is working on her Christian Light Publication 2nd grade curriculum.  L4 is excited to have completed the first page of her Alphabet Lap-Note (free from HomeSchoolShare).  And G11 is working on writing paragraphs with our Create Better Writers program that I am reviewing with the TOS Homeschool Crew.
Our most exciting adventure this year is that we have teamed up with two other homeschool families to do school together two days a week.  Our focus on these days is on history and science.  Our kids couldn't be more thrilled to get to visit with their friends so often and we moms are enjoying the combined efforts and accountability in teaching....okay, we like the fellowship too!
My school room finally got a much needed update this week when I worked to add a few colorful touches.  I'll be posting details and instructions for these projects next week!

Our kiddos completed their Summer Reading program from the local public library and were rewarded with these cool baseball hats and tons of free tickets to local events.

Then we finished our week with our first field trip of the school year!  We met our friends at the Falls of the Ohio to explore the awesome fossil beds there.

A field trip isn't complete without lunch...and in this case lunch was free!  Why's that?  Because it just so happened to be Cow Appreciation Day.  To celebrate, we all dressed as cows and received free meals complimentary of Chick-Fil-A!
