My Holiday Stitch Fix

You may know that we have ten amazing children in this house, so you can imagine that the holidays are filled with quite a bit of fun and chaos....and boxes! Lots and lots of boxes! So when Stitch Fix emailed to offer to send me a holiday Fix, I thought I might enjoy receiving a box in the December mail that was actually for me! And Stitch Fix certainly delivered!

What is Stitch Fix?

Stitch Fix is an online styling service and fashion retailer. You pay just $20 for a styling fee that can later be applied to the purchase of your clothes. You are assigned your own personal stylist who will hand pick items just for you according to the answers of a questionnaire and notes from you. About 3 weeks later, you will receive your Stitch Fix box which will include instructions, a note from your stylist, and a postage paid envelope to return any unwanted items. If you keep all five items, you receive a 25% discount.

My December Fix

Alice Blue Corren Pleated Front Blouse $58

Out of all the items in the box, I think this top may be the most flattering on me. I have two other tops that are similar in style. (It reminds me a lot of my 41Hawthorne blouse from my 2nd Fix.) But there were so many details about it that I really loved...I actually really like tabbed sleeves -is that weird?-, the pleats are really pretty and interesting, and I looooove this neckline. This one is a keeper and I think I'll wear it often.

41Hawthorne Kenny Faux Leather Trim Open Cardigan $88
Bancroft Joolie Hammered Circle Necklace $34

So, my favorite Charlie Brown character is Linus. I can so relate to him. I love my blanket. It's fluffy and comfortable and I'm not kidding, I feel joy when I climb into bed and snuggle up under my blanket. I tell you all of this, because this sweater makes me feel like I am wearing my blanket. The yarn of this fabric is not scratchy at all...it's smooth, almost silky. While I don't feel it's the most flattering look for me, this sweater is so comfortable and so warm, I have no doubt that it will get the most use from my closet. Plus, my 13 year old begged me to keep it. Even though she's a much smaller frame than me, it looked adorable on her and she loved the feel of it too.

I was a little uncertain about the necklace at first, but it looked so cute in the photos with my blue top that I decided it was a good keep too.

Daniel Rainn Acarda V-neck Blouse $68
Kut from the Kloth Kate Distressed Boyfriend Jean $78

When I opened the box my eyes were immediately drawn to the Acarda Blouse. I absolutely adore the colors of this top. The back has some really fun details that I like and I know I'll get as much wear out of it in our humid summers as I did my Papermoon Blouse last summer. I haven't had a chance to play with it much, but I think I can pair it with some sweaters in my closet and wear it before summer gets here too.

Of course, my favorite part of Stitch Fix is how they customize each order. I told my stylist that I had been on the hunt for a good pair of boyfriend jeans. Every Stitch Fix box includes a note from your stylist, and in my note she assured me she was sending their best selling pair! I really do love them. They are so comfortable and fit perfectly. They were the first item that I tore the tags off of and I've worn them at least three time since getting them last week. Please don't judge me.

This was my second home run with Stitch Fix and considering I've only received four boxes from them, I have to say that's outstanding odds! I highly recommend giving Stitch Fix a try. Again you only pay a $20 styling fee and can send back anything you don't want - no shipping charge! If you sign up through my referral link, I do receive a referral credit and I absolutely appreciate it!! :)

Stitch Fix Box 3

You may remember how I Got My Perfect Stitch Fix Box on Round 2 in July, so I have to tell you, I was pretty excited about the arrival of my 3rd Stitch Fix. It just arrived a couple days ago and I've got pictures to share, but first things first...

First things first...What is Stitch Fix?

Stitch Fix is an online styling service and fashion retailer. You pay just $20 for a styling fee that can later be applied to the purchase of your clothes. You are assigned your own personal stylist who will hand pick items just for you according to the answers of a questionnaire and notes from you. About 3 weeks later, you will receive your Stitch Fix box which will include instructions, a note from your stylist, and a postage paid envelope to return any unwanted items.

My 3rd Fix

As always the arrival and unwrapping of a Stitch Fix box feels very much like receiving an awesome birthday gift. After all, my stylist hand picked these items for just for me! I also offered some suggestions in a note. I'm afraid I may have confused her though as I did tell her I was going on a business incentive to trip to Hawaii and was looking specifically for items to wear there, especially a dress. And I didn't want sleeveless. And I wanted to be able to wear it more than just on my trip. I think this may have been just too much to ask...

Pixley Maeby Abstract Print Dress $58
This dress is cute and definitely comfortable. The stylist thought it could maybe work for Hawaii and make a good piece for Fall too. I kind of like when I added leggings, a belt, and a jean jacket. But the color and print is just not my style.

Sam Hi-Lo Tee $44
Reese Printed Maxi Skirt $58
Alternatively, she also sent me this maxi skirt that is definitely giving me a beach vibe. And it is by far the softest and most comfortable maxi skirt I've ever worn. Unfortunately, I don't think I have anything that really goes with this skirt. The Sam Hi-lo shirt is cute, but I prefer it with my jeans and boots.

Skies are Blue Venice Sleeveless Cardigan $48
I love layers, but I just have to say, I don't understand sleeveless cardigans. It looks like a vest. And that makes me feel old. And I may not be young, but I am not yet old. So no knitted vests please.

Jayce Woven Fold Over Clutch $38

I wanted to like this clutch, because I actually really need a purse, but it was a little small for my needs.

Of course not every Stitch Fix box will be a complete win, but you just can't beat the easiness of having hand picked items arrive directly to your door to try on. I'm not at all worried about the items I'm not keeping. They will be dropped in the mail tomorrow using the pre-paid package that Stitch fix provides! Couldn't be simpler and I can't wait for my next Fix!

How I Got My Perfect Stitch Fix on Round 2

You may remember that just about 3 weeks ago, I posted about my very first Stitch Fix box. I didn't like every item perfectly and wound up only keeping one pair of shorts, but I had so much fun that I immediately scheduled my next Fix. My second box just arrived yesterday and I am oh-so-in-love with every piece! Obviously, Stitch Fix has some excellent stylists but there are a few ways that you can help your stylist send the perfect box to you too.

I did quite a bit of Stitch Fix research both before and after receiving my first Fix and I've come up with the three best ways to help your stylist pick amazing items that you'll love.

Tip #1. Fill out your Style Profile honestly and utilize the Notes section.
Once you have signed up for Stitch Fix, you will be asked to fill out a Style profile. Be honest about what you like and don't be too daring. Your stylist will likely send you some items that might push your comfort zones a bit, but that is all part of the fun! You can always send back what you don't want. However, the more your stylists understands your likes and dislikes and your lifestyle, the more likely they will hit a home run with your box.

41Hawthorn Colibri Solid Tab Sleeve Blouse $48
Liverpool Paola Skinny Jean $88

I mentioned in my Style Profile that I often have trouble with tops that are long enough because I have a long torso. I also updated my Note to my stylist to let her know that the hubby and I try to get a date night at least once a week and I was in need of a great outfit for such an occasion.

She sent me the 41Hawthorn blouse and Liverpool Skinny Jean and they are perfect! I love the color and the fit of this top. And it's a great length! These jeans are seriously like butter. So soft and comfortable. The price tag is higher than I have ever spent on jeans, but I know I am going to get so much use out of them. I prefer a dark jean, but because of that I actually don't have any this color in my closet. For all of these reasons, these are definitely keepers!

Tip #2. Create a Pinterest board of clothing you like.
If you're not sure where to start, just search 'Stitch Fix' on Pinterest and you will find tons of images and links to repin. Be sure to edit the caption of your pin to tell your stylist exactly what you like and don't like about each item you pin. Then post the link to your Pinterest board on your Style Profile. If you need examples, feel free to check out my Pinterest board.

Market & Spruce Bernadette Lace Overlay Raglan Top $58
I had pinned several Raglan style tops. They definitely fit my more casual dress style. This particular top has a sheer lace front that adds just the right amount of girliness for me. It's as easy as a tee to throw on when I running errands, but I think will have me looking a little more put together.

Tip #3. Blog about your Stitch Fix and send a link to your Stylist.
Receiving my first Stitch Fix box was so much fun, but I didn't feel like my style was represented very well in the items I received. I wanted to be sure to document with pictures each of the pieces and explain what I liked and didn't like about them. I posted a direct link to my blog post in the Note to my stylist asking her to please read the post. I also pinned my own blog post to my Pinterest board. I feel like it surely helps the stylist to actually know what I look like, so pinning and posting pics of yourself is key as well.

Papermoon Ashtin Scoop Neck Blouse $44

I received a Papermoon tank in my last Stitch Fix box as well but the style just wasn't right for me. It was plain with a scallop edge that left be feeling a little blah and quite frankly...old. I ADORE the colors of this blouse. Again, it's so comfortable and perfect for the humid weather we've been experiencing this summer. I prefer a Vneck or scoop neck that is a little lower, but I actually like the higher neck on this top.

Romolo Rita Teardrop Bib Necklace $38
I also received a necklace in my last Stitch Fix box that I liked but wound up sending back after I confessed I just wasn't sure I had anything to wear it with. Well my stylist certainly made it easy it on me this time, because this adorable necklace matches my 41Hawthorne blouse so perfectly there's no way I can send it back!

I'm sure glad that Stitch Fix offers 25% off when you purchase all five items sent, because this box was definitely perfect for me. If you are interested in signing up to receive your perfect Stitch Fix box, please consider signing up using my referral link. I'll get a referral credit when your first box is sent and would absolutely appreciate it!

Stitch Fix Review- June 2015

I have some really sweet friends. And one of those sweet friends gave me a seriously fun birthday gift...a gift certificate to Stitch Fix! Have you heard of it?

What is Stitch Fix?

Stitch Fix is an online styling service and fashion retailer. You pay just $20 for a styling fee that can later be applied to the purchase of your clothes. You are assigned your own personal stylist who will hand pick items just for you according to the answers of a questionnaire and notes from you. The more specific you are with your stylist, the better chance you will get what you want. I highly recommend creating a Pinterest board with your favorite clothing options and sending the link to your stylist! Here's a link to mine. About 3 weeks later, you will receive your Stitch Fix box like this one!...

I suggest keeping an eye on the tracking link that Stitch Fix provides for you. I didn't and sure enough Ms. USPS arrived, saw our 115 lb lab on the front porch, and refused to drop off my package. She left me one of those postal notes that said one word with three explanation marks: "DOG!!!" I mean, I understand...but still, it was my Stitch Fix package and I had to wait until the NEXT day to retrieve it from the post office. *Sigh!*

Once it was finally in my possession, I opened this beautiful package. Complete with instructions, a note from my stylist, and a postage paid envelope to return any unwanted items.

Like Christmas morning, I quickly unwrapped my items and style card. The style card shows each item my stylist included for me, as well as suggested styling tips. Are you getting the feel for how fun this is, yet?! Seriously, at this point I stopped my unwrapping, called to my 13 year old daughter and said, "Come downstairs now! You're missing ALL THE FUN! My Stitch Fix box is here!!" Of course, in addition to not wanting her to miss the fun...I also need a photographer. So, you know.

Before you proceed to the photos, I must tell you a couple things.

This is my first Stitch Fix box. I wasn't properly prepared with lighting and well anything other than a 13 year old operating a camera phone. So the pictures aren't great. I'm going to try to do better next time. And oh yes, there will be a next time.

Secondly, I haven't fully decided on which items I will be keeping. Stitch Fix allows you 3 days to decide what you want to keep and what you want to send back. You even get to apply your $20 styling fee towards the purchase of your items! And if you keep all items from your box, you'll receive an additional 25% off. I'm happy to receive your feedback on which items you think I should keep!

Item #1: Papermoon Clift Crochet Hem Top ($38)

When I first saw this item in the box, I liked the color but I immediately thought I probably wouldn't keep it. The fabric is not loose or casual, it's definitely a dressier tank. And I didn't care much for the scalloped edge. However, once I put it on I felt comfortable in it. It photographs nicely and I feel it's a flattering style. I can definitely see wearing this often with dark jeans and maybe even to church with a maxi skirt. I think the price is reasonable, so I'm leaning towards keeping this one.

Update: After trying on again, I decided I just didn't care for the stiffer material and couldn't get past the scalloped edge. Sent back.

Item #2: Chambrai Norene Linen Cuffed Short ($64)

I'm not going to lie, I was disappointed when I first saw these in the box. I don't care much for a lighter color denim, and well the top of these shorts are elastic....elastic!! I'm not a grandma yet, and I'm not currently pregnant... I need a button on my pants! However, once I put them on I discovered grandmas are as wise as they seem. Elastic waistlines are in fact quite comfortable and with a tank or tee you can't see the waist anyway. I think the light denim pairs really nicely with a darker top and I like the length and the cargo style. It's really perfectly me. I've already struggled this year trying to find shorts. I recently went on a 5 hour shopping excursion just to find shorts, only to come home with work out gear....no shorts!! It's near impossible to find something between booty shorts and capris. I really like these...but oh, the price! I'm just not sure I can. If they were darker and had a button, no doubt I would buy them.

Update: Out of every item that I received in this Stitch Fix, I was most comfortable in these. I decided not to keep anything else. I think I will wear these a lot and was willing to use my discount to purchase these. Kept.

Item #3: Loveappella Abella Maxi Dress ($78)

This one is definitely going back. It's all wrong for me. I like the split on the leg and I don't even mind the length. But it clings to my baby tummy, the pattern is too crazy, and it forms a horizontal stripe that is just no good. I've had nine babies...they've widened my hips enough. I don't need a horizontal stripe to emphasize that. Plus the price. Eek.

Update: Sent back.

Item #4: Gili Arisha Striped Dress ($38)

I was super excited to try this dress on. The price point is fabulous and I love how interesting the cut is! I think I need to find the right necklace to pair with this, but it is definitely a great summer dress. Light weight, fun. Thin straps but can be paired with a jacket if its cool. The only downside is my daughter and I both felt that it didn't look as well in the photographs as in real life. Nevertheless, I think this one is a keeper.

Update: After trying on again, I just couldn't get over the fact that I felt a little "wide" in this dress. I think the problem was that it gathered a little higher than the most slender part of my waist. A friend told me I should keep what I felt beautiful in :). And in the end, this was not the dress for me. Sent back.

Item #5 Macalla Tiered Bib Necklace ($38)

Bam! Now that's a necklace! Super cute and super fun! But I think just a little too much bling for this mama. Between shuttling kids to drama class, CrossFit, and homeschool, I'm just not sure that I would ever really have a need to wear this necklace.

Update: Sent back.

Like I said before, I definitely want to give Stitch Fix another go. I'm not sure that my dress-casual style was perfectly nailed here. I like items that are unique and fun or simply functional. The elastic shorts, pattern-crazy dress, and scalloped edging all felt a little "old" to me. But I've heard time and time again, that as your stylist gets to know you the boxes get better! And I can't wait! If you are not a Stitch Fix member, please sign up using my affiliate link! I'll get referral credit when your first box ships and that would be awesome for this frugal mom!
