Summary of the first 6 days of the homeschool year.

Obsessive-compulsive planning
+ overestimation of amount of work that can be completed in a seven hour period
+ saying yes to doctors, physical/occupational/ speech therapists, family, and two well meaning friends who ask to visit/schedule appointments during the school day
= seven children who barely put a dent in the school work their teacher actually planned for the first week AND one overwhelmed, procrastinating homeschool Mama whose brain feels like mush and who is about to binge on apple pie, yarn, and a sappy romantic comedy.

  1. Isn't it a blessing to be able to have a day like that??
    It will all come together!
I am just now learning to say no, after 12 years of homeschool.

  2. I admire you for being real on here. It helps to make the rest of us who do the exact same thing feel more normal! :) HUGS! Thank goodness there are many more weeks in the school year to get it right.

  3. Oh, I hear ya. I thought I was going to have a breakdown after last week. Last night, I had lesson plans for this week still looming and Chris asked if I had to do it before bed. A moment of freedom hit me between the eyes and I said, "No. If it is this hard, I'm making it too hard." We did half of the school I intended today, BUT the school we did was twice as effective. I know we can't continue to do half of the planned work but I don't know yet if my plans need to cut in half or our efforts need to double. lol.

It is such a RELIEF knowing I'm not alone in this!! Thank you for your honesty. Looking forward to hearing about your year (especially a year with a wee one!)
