7 Reviews/ 7 Giveaways-Day 4

As a member of the TOS Homeschool Crew, I have been given the wonderful opportunity to review many homeschool products over the next several months. I feel truly blessed to be participating in this review group and I'm looking forward to trying out the products and giving you my honest opinion. This week I will post one review and host a giveaway each day. Please read this review and make sure to leave a comment to be entered into the giveaway.

From the moment I received the first email from Terri Johnson at Knowledge Quest, I have been excited about Homeschooling ABCs. Homeschooling ABCs is a 26 week online class designed specifically for new homeschooling moms and delivered directly to your inbox. If you are new to homeschooling, you must sign up for this! If you know someone who is new to homeschooling, you must tell them to sign up for this! But can I let you in on a little secret...this great product isn't just helpful for new homeschooling moms, but for the veteran homeschoolers as well.

Each week one of the 26 lessons are emailed and gives you step by step instructions on how to make your first homeschooling year a successful and memorable one. As a matter of fact, the first lesson teaches you how to get your homeschool up and running in 48 hours. Remember all those questions you had when you first began homeschooling? Remember how you just wanted to sit down with a veteran homeschool mom and pick her brain for a couple of hours? Homeschooling ABCs lessons are filled with the answers to every question you ever had about homeschooling and its delivered to you in bite-sized peices. Just a little bit a week so that you can mull over it and have time to apply it. Other lessons cover:

Determining your philosophy of education
Understanding your children's learning styles
Learning the in's and out's of buying and selling curriculum
Finding out how to get and stay organized
Learning how to teach multiple ages at the same time
Making the most of field trips
How to handle the "S" question - socialization
How to start each day WELL and keep it going that way

Plus, you'll receive over $200 worth of downloadable FREEBIES over the six months of instruction. Talk about putting a cherry on top!

The cost to participate is $10 a month for six months. Plus, when you sign up now you will also get 10 free bonus gifts (in addition to all the freebies throughout the course). I have to tell you, I think this is an incredible value and whole-heartedly recommend this e-course. I look forward to each new lesson written by Terri and finding a freebie attached to the lesson is like discovering a Christmas present waiting to be unwrapped.

So...any guesses on what the giveaway might be???

Oh, I was nearly jumping for joy when Terri emailed me to tell me she would like to give away
1 free class membership to Homeschooling ABCs - $60 value (plus over $200 in free curriculum from participating companies). One of you blessed readers will be the winner of this very grand prize! So here's what you need to do:

1. First, check out the Homeschooling ABCs website.

2. Come back here and leave me a comment telling me what you think looks most exciting about this program.

And that's it! Just be sure to leave me an email or blog address where I can contact you if you win in the comment. Don't forget that you can earn extra entries by pasting the 7 Reviews/7 Giveaways button from my sidebar on your blog...I'll enter you TWO times into EACH giveaway for doing so in addition to your entry for commenting.

You have until Wednesday, December 17th at 8pm to leave to enter into this and all 7 of the giveaways. The winner will be randomly drawn and I will announce the winners that evening. See you tomorrow!

  1. This sounds fabulous. Though I am in my 12th year of homeschooling, I am feeling very discouraged. The last several years have not gone the way I planned and I feel like I'm furiously spinning my wheels and accomplishing very little. With two in high school, one in middle school, one in elementary school, and one in preschool, I am stretched to keep it together, along with doing the books for our growing business and other volunteer activities (mostly at church). This sounds like something that could help me focus and could encourage me that all is not lost.

    Thanks for the review.

  2. I am not a new homeschooler but after looking at the site am interested. I struggle with teaching multiple ages right now and still struggle with organizing and scheduling. I really feel this could help all homeschoolers. I will look into this some more.
    Thanks !!

  4. Shanna- I love Homeschooling ABCs as well! This is the first year of homeschooling for us, and I'm thankful to live in a community where homeschooling is pretty popular so I've got support when I need it. My favorite thing (or most exciting about the program) is the explanation of methods and use of curricula. It is intimidating when you want to homeschool, but you don't know all the 'lingo' or where to start...Homeschooling ABCs is such a great resource to help get off to a great start! I'd love to give this to one of the families in my homeschool group. Most all of them are new to homeschooling and a lot of them feel very confused and/or disorganized. Thanks Shanna for hosting this giveaway!

  5. I have seen this advertised before and thought it looked great. This year my third child is in Kindergarten and adding in a third kid is challenging (especially since my fourth is not about to be left out ~ so I have to include her as well). I would much appreciate this resource to help me organize, schedule, and manage all the multi-tasking needed to school them all.
Thanks bunches for all the reviews and give-away opportunities.

  6. I think this site looks awesome, I have homeschooled for 3 years and I change my curriculum too often. I am not sure of my style, I feel wishy washy. I need a vision, I need organizational skills, this program looks great and would help me in those areas I am less proficient in. It would definately help any new mom or dad in homeschooling. 7. I like the 26 weeks of step by step instruction.!
I would have been here yesterday but the link posted on home school share group for yesterday wasn't spelled out correctly. So, I missed my dose. :-(
But I get to read about it today!

But I think with a busy life 26 weeks of instruction figured out for me is really really great.

  8. I've looked at this before and thought WOW I'd love to get that, but I dont' really need it cause I've been homeschooling for 9yrs already. But I believe it would be a a great "pick me up".

  9. Like some of those who previously commented, even veteran homeschoolers need the content presented in Homeschooling ABCs. I love Knowledge Quest and the work Terri Johnson puts into it. Another gold mine of resources! I have checked out Homeschooling ABCs previously and took another look at it just now.
What appeals to me is the no fluff. You could easily sit and read several books on each of the individual topics. I love to read but who has the time! The lessons are conveniently spaced out and the information condensed. It's as though Terri did all the research and reading for you and delivers the highlights and the need to know.

  10. This looks like a really cool product. In addition, the extra freebie curriculum looks awesome. I like the idea that instead of one long ebook that I might never have the time to read all the way through, this program offers manageable weekly doses.

  11. I enrolled in the class at the beginning of the year but couldn't continue due to the cost :(. I think the best part is to help keep a fresh perspective and to learn about the new things that could help. Even after doing this for (eek) 7 years, I still want to pick another moms brains for ideas that work and hadn't even occured to me. The freebies would be a nice bonus, but I just want to get into the classes again!

  12. sounds interesting. I like that it's money back, it's affordable. Once a week to my inbox means I can study at my "leisure". Puts things perhaps a bit more at my finger tips so I don't have to go searching for it.

    freebies are totally cool. :)

  13. I have been homeschooling for nearly 4 years, and definitely feel that I could benefit from "someone taking my hand and walking alongside" me. We do not have support groups in our area, so we do often feel alone in our journey, and this would feel like a support group for sure.

  14. This looks pretty interesting and it also seems to cover and answer quite a few of my burning questions and problems! Multiple ages, organising and staying organised, step be step (I just love that concept!), it overall feel like their would be someone there holding your hand and walking you through it! I am not new to home educating, we have been doing it over 3 years now, but boy some days I just pull my hair out! This sounds like the solution to them kind of days (or even reduce the stress I feel :))

Thanks Shana for bringing another new and interesting product to my eyes!

  15. This is only our 2 year of home education and I sometimes think I need to start all over again. I am having a hard time getting my 6 year old to enjoy learning. So this sounds like something that could give me a little more encouragement and advice for both of my little guys.
    Thanks for offering this.

  18. This is my third year of homeschooling. I use one curriculum for everything that tells me what to do & say. I would love to be able to pull stuff together myself and have more freedom in teaching and time so that I don't feel like we are behind all the time with all the writing and worksheets.

I had recently heard about this program on another blog and I was so interested in the Homeschooling ABC's. It would give me the knowledge & confidence I am needing right now. This would be a Super Big Blessing if I were to win this!!

Thanks Shanna for offering this :)

  19. Wow, this looks great! I liked this information: "In fact, most homeschooling parents would agree that it often takes two full years to feel as though they have finally entered their stride and are fostering the home learning environment that they are striving for."

I've been telling DH, who would be doing the extra teaching, that it is normal to feel a little inadequate when it comes to homeschooling but that he would do fine. This would be a wonderful resource to help us talk about what we can expect if we end up homeschooling long-term.

I would also love to sample different curriculums without having to go out and hunt them down. That would really be a headache-saver!

  21. I am a new homeschooler - 2nd grade, preK, and a 2 1/2 year old and a 6 month old. Some days are easier than others and I have all but given up for the holidays - knowing there are more important things to talk about than math at this time of year. Thank you for putting so much out there to support us and assist us in bringing up our children in the ways of the Lord!

  22. This is my first year homeschooling and I know the ABC's would help me get organized. I love being creative but structure is not my forte--it looks like Terri could teach me a thing or two about that...and I'm open to learning all about that. I really like how practical it comes across. I've read a lot of homeschooling things and sometimes I find that they are talking about broad ideas--but not very hands on. Terri's ABC's look like they get down to basics, roll up your sleeves kind of stuff. Yahoo for simplicity!

  31. I am in my first "official" year of homeschooling, though I sort of tried it our last year when my oldest was kindergarten age. I have been looking into Homeschooling ABCs the last few days, after receiving the 5 day mini course.

What I am most excited about is two part: 1)being able to clearly define my own philosophy of education and 2)better understanding my children's learning styles. I think to have clarity on both of those would give us a tremendous advantage in how we school and what materials and methods we use.

I also could be persuaded to enjoy some free curriculum. :-)
Thank you so much for offering your experience and encouragement to others!

  32. I have twin boys who are currently in public school and I have a three year old daughter at home. I have been praying about the idea of home schooling my daughter. I came across Homeschooling ABCs website from the Money Saving Mom website a couple of months ago and then I signed up for the 5 days of mini-lessons. God is working! I'm continuing to pray and pray for my husband and myself to agree that this will be the avenue to teach our daughter. It's not an option (homeschooling) for my sons. Anyhow, I think that this program would be a wonderful way to start teaching/homeschooling my daughter. Please enter me into the drawing and thank you for offering this! In addition, thank you for providing encouragement to so many.

  33. Thank you for offering this giveaway. I've enjoyed homeschooling my daughter for 2 years now and am a little concerned about including her little brother in on the action next school year as a kindergartner. I'm excited to see what Homeschooling ABCs has to say about working with multiple kids and socialization. Glad to hear experienced voices offer advice and encouragement!

  34. Thanks for the give-away. I was really interested in the program, but with the economy that way it is, could not afford to buy it. I am just beginning to explore homeschooling my children. This class looks like it would give me a leg up from the start.

  35. I'd love to win this class. I found out about your give-aways because I signed up for Teri's newlsetter just this morning & she sent an e-mail out. I could use the most help with schooling different ages at the same time. My eldest (8 DD) is a struggling reader and I haven't really started her sisters with any early reading yet--yikes! They will probably catch on quickly--I hope!

  37. Hi! This is my first year of homeschooling. WOW! I have 4 tots, 7, 4, 3, and 2 (in January). It has been soo tough trying to shuffle everyone about. I have NO idea how to fit the schooling I'm doing for my oldest with something that the youngers could do. So, right now, we're just doing seperate things. And the preschoolers are consuming almost all my time. *sigh* Anyways. What a blessing this would be, to win a free class on how to make school run smoothly so that noone is left out and everyone is learning something. In my area And church I am 1 of 3 homeschool families. So, I don't have much support. How great this would be! Thanks so much for the opportunity to sign up to win something that's actually useful!!! :D I'm so thankful for all the information that's out there for homeschoolers now! It's almost overwhelming! So, for me the things that look so very helpful would be: multi-age learning, finding my OWN learning philosophy, how to pick curriculum, figure out my children's learning styles, make the most of field trips (we have *yet* to have any field trips. . . ). I could keep listing, but it seems I've already listed almost the whole list. heheh. Thank you. ~

  44. This looks like a really great program. This is our first year and I am struggling most with how to teach multiple ages and still be able to challenge my oler kids. I like that Homeschooling abc's is a weekly "lesson". I have a hard time keeping up with e-mail and such, so maybe a weekly dose will work well for us. I also had to abandon the "free" curriculum that was given to me by a veteran homeschooling friend, because it didn't work for my daughter, so I really need to figure out their learning styles. Thanks for the contest!

  45. I think the first bonus from the HomechoolingABCs website, from Living Books Curriculum, would be such an encouragemnt to me right now. I have been homeschooling for about 6 years, and I am realizing that centering my curriculum aroung living books is what I truly love to provide for my children. Financially, it has been a struggle, and we have been using a state virtual academy because of the availability of the computers. To balance one need with one desire has proved to be the most difficult, so this looks like much needed information to share.
